The Institute was established in 1992 as a pan-Asian, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. The mission is to empower the Asian Pacific American community through advocacy, by utilizing research, education and coalition building. Current programs include Voting Rights, APA Empowerment Initiative, APA Resource Guide and advocacy against hate crimes. Our motto is to "educate, advocate, and empower," and with your help, we hope to continue doing just that.

AAI Seeks Policy Director
AAI is seeking a full-time Policy Director to lead and manage strategic policy development and advocacy. This includes developing issue briefs on key policy issues, and educating legislators and policy makers. Some current issues include affirmative action, immigration, and voting rights. S/he will work as a team with staff members, affiliate organizations, and other collaborating organizations to formulate and implement strategies to further policy objectives. The Policy Director acts as a conduit to translate policy goals into action by connecting with advocacy groups, policymakers and their staff, and other stakeholders in the domestic policy community. This position requires a high level of autonomy, initiative, and ability to work with a range of players in the policy world. For more information, please check out the job description.

AAI Seeks Legal Fellows for Judge Sandra R. Otaka Legal Fellowship

AAI is pleased to host the Judge Sandra R. Otaka Legal Fellowship, which is dedicated to projects relating to voting rights and the Asian American community.  AAI is seeking 1-2 Legal Fellows to work in the areas of voting rights and redistricting.  The Legal Fellow(s) will help lead AAI's redistricting efforts by analyzing various novel issues in voting rights law, as well as creating legal and practical guidelines for drawing districts that empower historically disenfranchised communities.  The fellowship will be an excellent opportunity to improve your skills in legal analysis and advocacy.
